Natural History Museum Christmas Extravaganza

Bringing a touch of festivity to the iconic T-Rex display

The Brief

The Natural History Museum approached us with a unique and exciting concept: to complete their giant T-Rex dinosaur display in a Christmas jumper, hat, and scarf by creating a wintery scene complete with an ice rink backdrop. Our role included designing the Natural History Museum Christmas project and managing it from inception to completion, ensuring it aligned with their vision.

To surpass last year’s project, we embarked on a mission to transform the Natural History Museum’s T-Rex into a festive holiday spectacle. Our ingenuity came to life as we meticulously designed an ice skating backdrop, spanning an impressive 15 x 5 metres, and printed it on a stretched banner, thereby taking the Christmas theme to new heights.

The Work

While the project aimed for a temporary display, certain elements were designed with sustainability in mind. Various components and the fake snow used in the project are eco-friendly, ensuring minimal environmental impact. We carefully selected materials to bring this vision to life.

To complete this enchanting scene, we constructed skis from durable reboard material, as well as skating dinosaurs, and presented borders, adding an extra touch of authenticity. The oversized Christmas jumper, a staggering 12 times the size of its ordinary counterparts, was crafted from recycled fibres, aligning perfectly with our commitment to sustainability and the use of recyclable and reusable materials.

The project featured a blackback stretched banner for the backdrop, creating a stunning visual representation of London. The ice flooring and fake snow added a touch of realism and were crafted from resilient materials for durability.

The Result

This Natural History Museum Christmas display was an exceptional opportunity to combine creativity, sustainability, and project management expertise to bring a roaring touch to the holidays. By successfully blending design elements with the goals of our client, we delivered a visual masterpiece that delighted visitors and even featured on the BBC news!
