Magical Van Hage Christmas display

Unlock the magic of the ice palace!

Introduction

One should not underestimate the impact of a compelling Christmas display. At KGK Genix, we understand the art of turning imagination into reality, creating stunning and immersive experiences that resonate with customers. In this case study, we will unveil our work for the Van Hage Ice Palace, a visual merchandising display.

The brief

The client’s vision was clear: they wanted to create a ‘must-visit’ place for Christmas. The client entrusted KGK Genix with a rather open-ended brief, primarily focusing on the overall finish and visual impact. The only caveat was that the Christmas display had to be easily dismantled, ensuring it could be stored and reused to spread the magic further. This project was part of a comprehensive suite of services, from initial design concepts to production, project management, and final installation.

The work

The heart of this project was a 6m wide by 5m tall structure constructed from 16mm recyclable reboard. To add a touch of Christmas magic, we mounted the Reboard with iridescent vinyl featuring a printed snow effect. This meticulous detail enhanced the 3D visualisation and added texture.

We crafted smaller embellishments using e-flute cards, printing, creasing, and forming them into 3D shapes, making every corner of the display a visual joy.

To polish the Christmas display to perfection, we designed a custom-made LED curtain backdrop measuring 12m wide by 6m tall. The curtain is produced in 6m x 3m modular sections, ensuring flexibility for future use as separate pieces, each with its own controller.

While the main structure’s iridescent vinyl isn’t recyclable, we’ve designed it to be reusable, ensuring it can be flat-packed and reinstated in another Blue Diamond store next year, reducing waste and environmental impact.

The biggest challenge was making sure everything looked as lifelike as possible, so our in-house designers worked closely with our print production team to ensure that the right materials were chosen to achieve the right look and feel.

“Wow… we thought last year’s gingerbread house was impressive but the Ice Palace has pushed the boundaries even further and massively exceeded all expectations.” – VM and display manager – Blue Diamond Amwell
